Never the Same (World Suicide Prevention Day)

Your parents would pass by your room, and everything would come back in a snap. How they found your lifeless body, ran to you and shook you non-stop just to find out they were minutes late. Your siblings didn’t just lose their wrestling opponent, but one of their idols. That one person they always look up to. Your best friend would sit in tears upon the announcement in school. Even that seatmate who used to kick your chair just to annoy you? He’d be devastated. He’d blame himself. Your teachers? They’d think it’s their fault for not being enough to make the school comfortable for you. You think no one cares? Your family does, your friends do, the people around you, too. Someone right now is thinking of you. Because I do. I may not exactly know how you feel but I know how to feel so f*cked up to the point that I thought ending my life is the only answer. But then I remember, this world is also f*cked up, anyway. Even steven. So let’s all be f*cked up’s in this f*cked up world and LIVE. Might as well witness it. After all, real life is tragic but it’s perfectly worth it. That’s the most optimistic speech you can get from someone pessimistic like me. But please, if you reach this point in my long arse plea, please continue on living your life. You’re never alone because someone will always care. Please don’t die. Trust me when I say, without you the world might not stop rotating and revolving but I know it won’t ever be the same.

Our Dying Country

The generation is dying,

Everything’s falling apart.

A millennium one will shake his head at.

Close-mindedness, this age creates?

Naïvety or masked stupidity at its finest?

Whatever begets, comes and passes

like nothing happened at all.

After all, no one cares if he’s not

affected by that passing tornado,

right?

WRONG!

Self-centered citizens,

Is this what you’ll pay our ancestors

who shed their blood and soul for this country?

Have you no shame at all?

Is this what you’ll pay our country

that is so precious and fragile

due to the enemies that dared cause its harm?

Hmmm, probably.

No, definitely.

After all, who is the real enemy?

The one we vie for to lead?

The one we foist into the responsible ones

who you dare corrupt?

No. OURSELVES is the real enemy.

We have a choice but we go for the wrong.

A decision I have yet to understand

But never ever will comprehend.

Is this the price democracy will cost?

No wonder Plato doesn’t agree

with this government form as it continues

to arise a conflict between fellow countrymen.

But that’s how it works, I guess.

People against his own people.

A lost cause indeed,

A battle for our DYING COUNTRY

against ourselves we will never win.

All I can say is that now

May God bless us in all that we’re doing

from the past, what is passing,

and what is yet to come.

How Dull is a Life Without Music?

How dull is a life without music?

It’s like a quiet world of misery.

A full experience of the pain this planet brings;

A pathetic living with no harmony.

How dull is a life without music?

It’s like nature without colour:

Plain, black and white, boring.

What would we be living for?

How dull is a life without music?

It’s like rhythm would be lost.

Seasons would not change, water would cease to flow,

Everything, a lost cause.

How dull is a life without music?

It’s like a complete set of free fall.

Earth would stop spinning then,

I’d rather not live at all.

Over and Over and Over Again

One of the coolest abilities that a bibliophile could have is neither the extra speed in finishing a book or two or even the whole series of it in one sitting; nor the most vivid imagination of being one of the characters. Although the latter would be so much cool, both aforementioned notions could not top my idea. As a bibliophile, one ability I’ve always wanted to have is being able to erase the memory of a certain book I’ve read in my mind so that when I read it again, the excitement and thrill of a new good read will always be the same. I know, the adventure and awesomeness of a favourite book will always be there but the first time one has read it will always be the greatest experience. Isn’t it cool? to be able to read a book (or books) over and over and over again but it will always feel like the first time? Could you think of different abilities that would be cool for a bibliophile? Drop it down in the comments below.

Ironic… (8 words in 8 lines collection)

So simple yet complicated. To know is tiring

Yet we are intrigued. What a confusing thing!

To innovate’s to destroy at the same way;

To develop is to hurt day by day.

Bad is on top, good is grounds below.

To understand, there are ironies one must know.

We write for peace yet tend to blame.

The world today will always be the same.

Morals: The Lost Treasure

Note: Yayyyy!!! This is my first post after all the revisions I made. Clean slate blog no more.

2nd note: This essay is purely my opinion and I don’t intend to offend anyone.

AS WE TAKE a leap into the 21st century, our generation enjoys the perks the new millennium brings. Everything that must have been seemingly unsightly five decades ago becomes socially acceptable these days. Nobody cares how they shall be perceived anymore. Besides, it’s the norm. Maybe it’s because of the new era or people really must have forgotten about their morals.

What are morals anyway?

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it can be defined as “relating to, dealing with, or capable of making the distinction between, right and wrong in conduct.”

Everything nowadays seems advancing with the exception of morality. It’s easy to get swept away by this wave of society who barely cares about godly and moral character anymore.

For instance, in school, copying one’s homework/test has been a mainstream habit of students these days. Since when has been cheating legal? When did works of dishonesty become allowed? What ever happened to integrity? This has been part of good conduct but when a student stands up for what is right and refuse to share his/her notes he/she would be called selfish, prude and any other terms of the like. I am not saying that this happens in all schools but I’m stating a fact that this happens in majority of them.

Another example that happens between teenagers would be bad peer pressure. If you are a teen and you’re being persuaded into the things I’ll mention, you’ve got to think twice about your so-called friends. “Living a little” is not the definition of having drugs, taking in alcohol whilst underage, sneaking out to parties, ditching school and most of all, pre-marital sex. Another thing I simply cannot fathom is cursing/swearing/cussing more often than needed. Sure, it can be really helpful in proving a point but it has become stereotypical that it may be even more understood than important vocabulary words.

At home, a lot of teenagers these days seem to have an attitude towards their parents and elders. Majority of the teens argue a lot with their parents over the pettiest things instead of discussing it carefully like what Homo sapiens should do. The argument often heats up and harsh words are being thrown to and fro even when they don’t mean it. What ever happened to respect?

I am a teenager, myself. I am not perfect. I’m far from it. What I may have that majority of kids doesn’t is the knowledge about values. I know that it should still be present in us no matter what happens. We should maintain the right attitude and behaviour no matter how messed up is the world we live in. By reading this, you should’ve called me uptight by then. However, I am stating a point and I need to continue this no matter how much criticism I’ll get.

One in ten young Filipino women age 15-19 has begun childbearing: 8% are already mothers and another 2% are pregnant with their first child according to the results of the 2013 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS).

“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge”
-Hebrew 13:4

This is one of the Bible quotations which correlate to the marriage before sex topic. However, there is a tragic fact it has long been forgotten.

Media has been one of main influences in this society. Movies, television, and music have increasingly become culverts of self-indulgence, where every kind of immorality and violence is accepted, even glamourized, and they don’t care about the toxic result it could store in the minds and souls of young people — the industry consciously invest millions to convince kids to fish in the toilet bowl called “entertainment.”

Different case scenarios are promoted on television and the internet and in movies, books, magazines, and other communications media. In television, you can see friends who back stab each other, couples who are having third-parties and even sexuality. Same goes for movies. Books feature some ‘bad boy’ who takes drugs and alcohol, fights in an underground boxing match, participates in brawls more often than the number of meals in a day, and guess what? That’s okay. I even stumbled upon this book with detailed erotic scenes and I immediately turned it down but then other people my age seem to have enjoyed it.

I don’t condemn people reading these genres. However, we must have self-control. Learn to know what we must apply in real life and what we must not. It’s all about self-control. Young people are generally curious they tend to think it’s cool and awesome. These examples are what they see and it’s the norm.

Here we go again with the norm. Is the norm really appropriate? Or do we really just follow the norm in order to fit in? What happened to the humans having the notion of what is ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’? I believe it is not completely dissolved.

“Only a moral and virtuous people are capable of freedom. The more corrupt and vicious a society becomes, the more it has need of masters.” -Benjamin Franklin

The previous quotation was made by my favourite scientist/politician. I figure I would like to share it with you.

As a Christian, I also would like to share the life Jesus has lived. We’ll find all the characteristics of godliness listed in Him. Jesus showed us how we should live and act. He lived a godly life and set the example for us to follow. It is never too late for a good change. With the sudden rise of the state of our living in the 21st century, let us bring our morals with it.

To end this essay/rant of my 16 year-old self, I have a metaphor for you: Morals are lost treasures we can find in this map of ourselves where the X mark leads to our chest.  Why the chest, you ask? Figuratively and symbolically, we just have to dig deep to find them.

Pagpag {Filipino}

Note: This entry was originally posted on 20 October 2014.

Bukas na Darating {Filipino}

Note: This entry was originally posted on 2 October 2014 and has been reposted on 3 August 2015.

Kaya nga may kasabihang,

Illusionary Hiatus

Note: This entry was originally posted on 8 February 2014.

A NEW STUDY may cast some light on the most controversial parts of the current global warming debate. The problem is frequently featured in headlines as a question, “Has Global Warming Stopped?”

The short answer is and has always been “no”, it hasn’t stopped. Not ever. It hasn’t even slowed down. Sea levels continue to rise inevitably. Artic Sea ice and Antarctic glacier covers continue to melt down. Weather patterns continue to change dramatically.

But let’s back up.

Science has shown; if CO2 emissions were causing global warming, then surface temperatures should continue to rise. Since they haven’t global warming can’t be real.

Scientists have termed this a “pause” or a “hiatus” in global warming. As recently as February 3, this anomaly in the data was publicized as evidence that climate scientists have “exaggerated” the risks of climate change. But even whilst the anomaly in the data may pose no threat to global warming models generally, its cause remained a mystery.

Recently, in a study published in the current issue of Nature Climate Change, a scientific review journal, a team of scientists led by Australian Matt England found that warmer surface water in the Pacific is being pushed westward by equatorial trade winds that are much stronger than expected. As the warm surface water hits the western continental shelf it is driven downward into the lower depths. This action of the trade winds effectively cools the observable surface temperature by mixing the heat into the deep water.

“The oceans have this amazing capacity to suck up heat,” England said in a phone interview with TheStreet.com. “The ocean absorbs 90% of the heat of the climate system, so if you’re looking for global warming that’s where you have to look.”

The answer to the question, “Has Global Warming Stopped?” still remains a mystery. Is Global Warming a great burden of the planet? Is Global Warming really a great effect on Earth’s present state? Has Global Warming paused? Or is this just an illusionary hiatus?

May Pakialam Ka {Filipino}

Note: This entry was on 26 September 2013.
